The year's number-one event for the Finnish energy industry, Tampere 25-28 October 2010
Energy-efficiency a key topic
EnergiaForum 10, the year's main event for the energy industry of Finland, takes place in Tampere on 25-28 October 2010 and will present a comprehensive review of the entire sector, ranging from energy markets, production and distribution to power plant systems, utilisation and maintenance. The event's main themes focus on the key challenges of the industry: energy-efficiency, renewable energy forms, nuclear power and energy innovations.
This Tampere Exhibition and Sports Centre event totality comprises the three-day Energy Fair on 26–28 Oct, the Energy Day on Tuesday 26 Oct and the Energy Congress on 27–28 Oct. In addition to this, the industry's challenges, opportunities, expanding markets and development prospects will be examined in several different seminars.
More than 270 exhibitors, a record number, will participate in the three-day fair. Finnish exhibitors will be joined by companies from Sweden, Lithuania, Estonia, Austria, Germany, France, Czech Republic and India, making the event more international than ever.
High interest in electric cars
Cars powered by electricity, natural gas or full-hybrid engines as well as their charging technologies will be on display at the Energy Fair's new product section. The EcoCity exhibition will provide a taste of the urban structure of tomorrow. On display will be, for example, intelligent solutions for transports, electricity grids, real estate and outdoor lighting.
Electric cars now attract interest both from professionals and consumers. Many municipalities are currently planning to set up the infrastructure necessary for charging electric cars and refuelling vehicles powered by natural gas. Private and corporate car-owners are interested in cutting emissions as well as in the cost-advantages that electric cars offer. A gas-powered Volkswagen Passat will also be on display at the fair.
City of Tampere presenting its energy policies
Thursday 28 October is Energy Day in the Tampere Region. The topic of the day is industrial energy-efficiency and this message is aimed at manufacturing companies and people working on questions related to energy-efficiency. The EU has set its Member States a target to increase energy-efficiency by 20% by 2020. The seminar will present topical information on the challenges and opportunities of energy-efficiency in Finland. The opening speech will be delivered by Managing Director Esa Härmälä, The European Fertilizer Manufacturers Association.
The City of Tampere will also be presenting its ECO2 – Eco-efficient Tampere 2020 programme of climate and energy objectives. It provides support for projects that promote a low-carbon and carbon-neutral urban structure. During the afternoon, participants will focus on case examples of industrial energy savings and energy-efficiency. The seminar is being organised by Innovation Company Hermia, the Tampere Region Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment as well as by the firms Ekokumppanit Oy and Motiva Oy.
Top names of the industry gather for Energy Day
The Energy Day on Tuesday 26 October will be hosted by Kari Rämö, Chairman of the Finnish Energy Forum. The day's topics will include transport issues of the future, in addition to which the best energy-related student thesis will be awarded and the first winner of the new Energy Idea of the Year contest will be announced. Energy and climate policy will be considered both with respect to the domestic and the European level. The afternoon panel discussion will debate the matter from the perspective of the next Government's term of office. The day will continue with the Energy Gala Dinner, which provides an excellent opportunity for networking.
Congress to consider the EU's climate objectives, wind power and technological possibilities
The two-day Energy Congress is divided into half-day sessions, whose themes extend from energy markets and technological opportunities to environmental questions. One morning session has been dedicated to the future of wind power in Finland.
The impact of the EU's energy and climate objectives on the energy system of the Nordic countries and the global competitiveness of our industry presents a broad-reaching question. The panelists will consider how the objective of curbing global warming by two degrees will affect Finland and the other Nordic counties as well as examine the technical opportunities for reaching emission limits.
One of Wednesdays' morning sessions is called Workshop on Nuclear Waste Management. The session is being organised by Finnish Energy Industries and the European Atomic Forum FORATOM.
Find just the right information on products and services at the fair
Daily information briefings will present up-to-date info on the latest innovations and solutions developed by exhibitors. The Finnish Wind Power Association will host daily discussion events on wind power at its exhibition stand. Other notable seminars include the Association of Finnish Peat Industries' Peat Day on Monday 25 Oct and Solteq Plc's EAM Seminar on Tuesday 26 Oct.
The fair is being organised by Expomark Oy and the training events by such organisations as Energy Forum of Finland, the Finnish Maintenance Society Promaint, KP-Media Oy, Finnish Energy Industries, FORATOM, Pöyry Finland Oy and the Finnish Recovery Boiler Committee. Speeches and presentations at the congress and the seminars will be delivered in Finnish.
